Unserviced land to be budgeted for under NDP 12

22 Aug 2024

Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Honourable Dr Kefentse Mzwinila has told Parliament that some Francistown plots are not fully services, but provided with bulk water infrastructure.

Dr Mzwinila said Blocks Five and Six were fully serviced, while 3 605 plots in Block One and CBD were only provided with bulk water infrastructure while engineering design for Block Two was ongoing.

Funds permitting, he said, the unserviced plots would be budgeted for during the Twelfth National Development Plan (NDP 12).

He also said the approximated cost of Gerald Estates, Block One, Two and CBD was estimated at P1.187 billion and the design and costs would be reviewed before the start of the project to take consideration of recent developments in the project area.

He added that besides land servicing, other older areas in Francistown required roads and stormwater drainage, which he said fell under the responsibility of the Francistown City Council.

MP for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane had asked the minister to state the anticipated cost of the Gerald Estates stormwater drainage system and whether the ministry was aware that there was dire need for such services, including internal roads and sewer.

Mr Moswaane also asked the minister to apprise Parliament about unserviced land in Francistown. ENDS
