13 Jan 2014

Kgosi Keoganne Modisapodi of Moralane village in the Central district has requested government to provide his village with an ambulance.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting addressed by the Member of Parliament for Shoshong, Mr Phillip Makgalemele recently, Kgosi Modisapodi said the village had been without an ambulance since April 2010. Kgosi Modisapodi said the lack of an ambulance has contributed to some deaths which could have been averted by rushing the patients to the hospital on time.

He said the Tribal Administration also faces shortage of transport.“I do not have a vehicle in the kgotla, but that one is the least of my concerns now, the clinic needs an ambulance,” he said.

Kgosi Modisapodi also raised concern about stock theft, adding that since the inception of some poverty eradication initiatives especially those that deal with livestock, some people’s livestock and chickens had been disappearing in the area. In response, Mr Makgalemele said during the previous parliament session, he was informed that the Ministry of Health had procured 60 ambulances and the Mahalapye Sub District Health Management Team (DHMT) was allocated three.

However, he promised to take up the matter with the DHMT in Mahalapye. For his part, the Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Ofentse Badirile appreciated government for the provision of ARV treatment that patients get from the local health service centre.

Mr Badirile said the move has reduced travelling costs and would allow the health officials an opportunity to monitor those reluctant to take medication. He however decried delay in acquiring Ipelegeng material for projects in the village.

He cited the construction of toilets in the kgotla which was taking long to complete because of the delay in supplying material. He said the delay inconveniences the constractor who has to complete the project and move on to other projects for survival. Ends
