ABSA has injected P500 000. 00 towards the 2024 National Agricultural Show which started Monday.

The amount will be channeled towards procurement of personal protective attires for livestock handlers, prizes for the different categories of winners and other areas associated with running the show.

The show will be officiated by His Excellency President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi on Thursday at Sebele Showgrounds.

Briefing the media recently, Minister of Agriculture, Mr Fidelis Molao said this year’s show would be held under the theme, “Transforming Agriculture through Utilization of Modern Technology” and would be open free of charge to all members of the public.

He said this year’s theme was testament to government’s commitment to improve agricultural productivity through utilisation of modern technology.

Mr Molao said this year the show has farmers coming from all over the country to exhibit their produce and livestock. 

He said the platform would provide for exclusive sharing of newly launched packages of Thuo Letlotlo and Temo Letlotlo.

Mr Molao said government had further pumped in about P13 million for the upgrading of the show grounds, a project which included upgrading of exhibition kraals and hall in the foreseeable future.

“We are on transition stage for the National Agricultural Show where government will provide a conducive environment for the show to be run by farmers. It is worth mentioning that government recently sponsored show committee members to benchmark from the Zimbabwean Agricultural Society,” he said.

The minister said the exercise proved fruitful as the team learnt a lot and would soon engage different stakeholders to come on board.

Meanwhile, ABSA’s Acting Head of Communications, Mr Spencer Moreri said being a key player in the agricultural shows reinforced the bank’s position as a financial partner in supporting and financing Botswana’s agriculture sector. ENDS
