Early age education crucial

13 Jan 2014

The North East District Council secretary, Mr Charles Amos has said the principles of nation building lie equally on both citizens and the government.

Officially opening Joyful Little Lamps Pre-School at Tati Siding on January 11, Mr Amos said people did not want to take up the leading role and instead preferred to come second.

He said as such many people had failed in their dreams of exploiting their full capabilities. He therefore urged parents to take up the responsibility of enrolling their children at the new pre-school so that they could start exploiting their capabilities from early age.   This, he said, would stimulate children to want to learn and grow into the education system hence allowing them to personally develop their capabilities.

“Let us love our children enough to give them platform to grow and determine their future through the principles that we instill on them for the future,” he noted.

In some instances, Mr Amos observed that children failed because they were not given the opportunity to fully exploit their personal abilities. In addition, the council secretary highlighted that education in the country was a priority, saying it was for that reason that President Lt Gen.l Seretse Khama Ian Khama called on Batswana to contribute and become partners in the education system because the collaboration will help nurture the children to become responsible future citizens.

Mr Amos said since the school was privately owned, as the local authority they will work hand in hand with its management to ensure that it comply with the requirements. The village development committee (VDC) chairman, Mr Tsietso Ikaneng said the opening of the pre-school has come as a blessing since they have long wanted to have one in their village but due to financial constrain, they were unable to build it on their own.

He explained that the pre-school is going to enroll about 75 pupils and offer them with language and development of early literacy. ENDS
