AM620 charity cycling challenge starts
13 Aug 2024
Her Excellency First Lady Neo Masisi is a guest rider at the three-day Albert Milton Charity Cycling challenge, which starts today until Friday.
The charity tour has attracted 23 riders from Botswana, South Africa and the United Kingdom who will embark on a 620km endurance ride from Gaborone to Ghanzi for charity purposes and also in honour of Debswana managing director, Albert Milton, who died in 2019.
The riders are from different categories of elite, under 23 as well as veterans and with the youngest rider being 20.
The AM620 cycling challenge, under the Albert Milton Foundation, will start in Gaborone using the Mmankgodi/Boatle/Thamaga route to Kanye before proceeding to Jwaneng for a sleepover.
The second leg of the cycling challenge will start in Jwaneng tomorrow to Kang for the second sleepover.
The last lap of the tour will start on Friday from Kang to Ghanzi.
“The last lap is going to be the most enduring long stretch of the challenge, because at the end we will be doing more than 620km.
But the pain endured is nothing compared to our goal of giving back to the less privileged. And we chose this route deliberately,” Albertianh Milton said.
The cycling challenge has always had its vision and focus on education empowerment from grassroots.
However, over the years they have also looked into gender-based violence as well as cancer awareness campaigns
The cycling challenge gave birth to Albert Milton Foundation, which was recently launched.
Milton said the start of the foundation gave them the opportunity to engage the corporate sponsors to establish where there was a need.
Milton said hopefully as years go by and with the success of the foundation, they might look into a cycling academy, which would promote cycling. Ends
