BCP woos Mmadinare electorates

The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) recently launched its prospective parliamentary candidate for the Mmadinare constituency, Mr Sennye Obuseng.
Revered for his commitment to good governance and the rule of law, Mr Obuseng stands poised to challenge the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) in the upcoming elections.
Speakers at the launch described Mr Obuseng as someone whose experience in economics and governance could help address the rising unemployment and other challenges the country was faced with.
Mr Obuseng is glorified as a drive shaft that will propel the country’s economy into one capable of generating over 300 000 jobs, with a living wage pegged at P4 000, speakers at his launch said.
“I stop and listen whenever Mr Obuseng talks economics and good governance. I knew him to be this towering economic guru long before he became a member of the BCP,” the BCP leader Mr Dumelang Saleshando said.
Mr Obuseng, who has worked for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was described as a fountain of economic knowledge who shared potent ideas freely in lecture rooms and through public forums.
“I know some Batswana can shun a candidate of his badges just because he grew up before their eyes and then regret it later. Please, don’t be like them,” Mr Saleshando said.
“This man is revered by academics and economists the world over.
He has brilliant ideas to change the economic landscape of this country for the better,” the BCP vice president Mr Taolo Lucas said about Mr Obuseng.
While criticising the ruling BDP for its ideas, the BCP leaders emphasised that Mr Obuseng, along with their cadre, possessed the skills necessary to lift Botswana out of its economic struggles.
BCP Vice President Mr Lucas praised Mr Obuseng’s extensive contributions to the party’s manifesto, underscored by a strategic 10-point agenda aimed at addressing pressing national issues.
Mr Lucas said he was deeply concerned that Mmadinare was the only constituency in BOSEMMA (Bobonong, Selebi Phikwe and Mmadinare), which is yet to unseat the BDP from the constituency.
The BCP’s publicity secretary, Dr Mpho Pheko cautioned constituents that rejecting Mr Obuseng would mean missing an opportunity to benefit from the BCP’s wealth of skills and knowledge. “It’d be a shame if you cannot usher in the BCP,” she remarked, drawing attention to the inadequacies of both the UDC and the BDP.
For his part, Mr Obuseng said the time was ripe for Batswana to embrace new ideas from the BCP and shun the ruling party, which has failed to deliver on its promises.
Mr Obuseng said over 330 000 Batswana live in poverty. "There is shortage of vital drugs. They’re yet to deliver on the electric car which they (BDP) tipped to create jobs…we’re also yet to see the much touted Botswood come to fruition and deliver jobs in the entertainment industry,” Mr Obuseng said. “Opposition brings new, fresh ideas,” he added.
