Protracted land dispute before Land Tribunal

04 Aug 2024

A case of the protracted dispute between Kweneng Land Board and a certain individual over a piece of land designated for tribal cemetery at Magokotswane in Molepolole has been before the courts of law for six years.

Responding to a parliamentary question recently, Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila said the case involved access and encroachment, which the Kweneng Land Board made a ruling on them, while the decision was appealed at the Land Tribunal.

Dr Mzwinila said the matter was first enrolled with the Land Tribunal on July 18, 2018, while the last hearing was on February 21, 2023.

He, however, said that he was not in a position to state when the matter would be resolved as the land board awaited advice from the Land Tribunal on the date of the next hearing.

He added that any of the parties was at liberty to appeal the decision of the Land Tribunal to the High Court.

Molepolole North MP, Mr Oabile Regoeng, had asked the minister if he was aware of the dispute and if so, state the number of years it dragged.

The MP also wanted to know how soon the matter  would be resolved. ENDS
