Notwane Satmos draw

12 Jan 2014

A schoolboy error by FC Satmos’ second choice goalkeeper, Letlhogonolo Selebogo cost his team valuable points when the Cheetahs played to a one-all draw with Notwane in Molepolole on January 10.

After a brilliant goal from the league’s top scorer, Patrick Kaunda in the eighth minute, Selebogo made a tragic error a minute later when he unnecessarily left his goal to cut out an advancing Kitso Tlhowe.

Tlhowe managed to sneak the ball past the goalkeeper into the empty net. However, FC Satmos coach, Kgosietsile Jacob was full of praise for his troops after the game, saying they played well considering that this it was the first game after the festive break.

“Apart from the error that resulted in the equalising goal, the players did well. I think the only other let down was that we won the game before we even played,” he said, implying that his players might have underrated their opponents. Jacob said the overall result was fair as they did not play well, especially in the first half.

“We did not play accordingly in the first half and waited for our opponents for too long, but in the second half we were a better team. The experience of the likes of Mosimanegape 'Twizzer' Ramohibidu and Mpoeleng 'Stopper' Mpoeleng worked well for us.

Jacob said their first choice goalkeeper, Murambiwa Ndlovu was held by work related matters and was likely to be available on their next assignment. For his part, Notwane caretaker coach, Fabian Zulu said even though the current crisis in the club were outside the playing field, it still affected the players as they were part of the whole establishment.

He, however, gave the players credit because they managed to play well under the conditions, especially against a well-organised team like FC Satmos. “The players reported late for training after the festive break and I have been training with only a handful of players, so most of them are not yet fully fit,” he said.

On how long he would continue to hold fort at the club, Zulu was uncertain.  “When you look at the current developments at the club, I do not think any coach will be willing to work for it any time soon until we sort out our house, but that is not for me to decide. I might be gone tomorrow or still holding fort for our next assignment,” he concluded. ENDS
