Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) will, on January 15, host Woman Grand Master (WGM) Anastazia Karlovich from Ukraine.

When revealing the news, BCF public relations director, Keenese Katisenge said Anastazia will be in the country for five days from January 15 to 19.

Katisenge said the purpose of her visit would be to, amongst others,  inspire or motivate young girls in Botswana, with the main focus on their attraction and retention in sports.

The visit would also be part of the launch of the Botswana Chess Federation Women’s Commission as per the federation’s new constitution as well as the launching of the BCF 2014 Calendar of events. Katisenge further stated that whilst in Botswana, Anastazia would engage in a simultaneous chess display with a selected number of young chess players from around the country.

She will be joined by other reputable woman chess players from Botswana, in the likes of Woman Candidate Master (WGM) Tuduetso Sabure, Woman International Master (WIM) Boikhutso Modongo and WIM Tshepiso Lopang.

Katisenge explained that the visit by the Anastazia showed the support and confidence that the world at large had in Botswana Chess.   Anastazia is a role model to a lot of young girls in chess. She was born 31 years ago in Ukraine  and is one of the strongest woman chess players in the world. She started playing chess at the  age of 9 and is now involved in mentoring and grooming young chess players. ENDS
