Ahead of the fast approaching Olympic Games in Paris, Letsile Tebogo, who bears the most burden of the country’s hope for a medal at the international competitions, continued to improve his performance by setting a new National Record and recording a Personal Best time of 9.88 in 100m at the Diamond League meeting in London on Saturday.

The sensational sprinter finished third behind America’s Noah Lyles and Akani Simbine of South Africa, who clocked 9.81 and 9.86 respectively.

In 400m, Bayapo Ndori finished seventh with 45.03 and the race was won by Matthew Hudson Smith of Great Britain in 43.74.

The two athletes joined the rest of Team Botswana in Montauban, Paris, where the team is camping.

The Olympics starts at Stade de France on Friday until August 11.

Former Botswana Athletics Association administrator, Patrick Moesi said Tebogo was reaching his peak at the right time and that he could still run faster in Paris, adding that he would be in contention for a medal.

“He is in top shape and it is a moral booster for team Botswana, he will inspire the team to greater heights,” he said.

On Ndori’s performance, he said it was not a good day at the office for the athlete, adding that he would bounce back “We should fancy our prospects at the Olympics, and I am hopeful for improved performances in Paris,” he said. ENDS
