Mark Nawa and Denzel Seetso have won their second singles matches
in the ongoing Tennis World Cup (Davis Cup) Africa Group V event at the National Tennis Centre yesterday.
Nawa beat Lesotho’s Bishop Mosebi Nawa beat Mosebi 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 while Seetso defeated Mpho Leshoele of Lesotho 6-4, 6-4.
Nawa and Mosebi kept spectators on the edge of their seats in a nerve wrecking encounter. Although Mosebi is more experienced at 31-years and a tennis coach by profession, he could not contain and dictate terms to 18-year-old, Nawa.
Mosebi acknowledged at the end of the encounter that he played against one of Botswana’s greatest players.
Mosebi said Nawa gave him a good match and was still young.
“I think he will go places,“ he said.
Nawa said he did not play the way he wanted, but was happy that he won.
Furthermore, he said he was aware that he was playing against a reputable coach with experience.
Team Botswana captain, Petrus Molefe said Nawa was complacent in the second set after winning the first and lost.
“The moment he started tensing, he double faulted and made errors,” he said.
Molefe, however, said they managed to correct the serve after the match and was confident that he was now on track.
Seetso said his opponent was tough and played well.
“I was nervous and not playing my best in front of my home crowd,” he said, adding that he overplayed some of the strokes and started missing.
He also said he lost focus and confidence along the way, but managed to pump himself up.
Leshoele said although he lost, he was happy with his performance.
He said Seetso was a good player adding that growing up, he looked admired him. Ends
