Former students donate to hospital

06 Jan 2014

Former students of Seepapitso Senior Secondary School (SSSS) recently donated nine chairs to the Kanye Seventh Day Adventist Hospital (KSDAH) eye clinic for use by patients.

Speaking during the P3 000 worth of donation, the class chairman, Mr Peter Mompati, said the initiative was born from a come-together party in 2009, after which they decided to knit the group together by supporting one another during social events such as weddings and funerals.

With the donation, Mr Mompati said his class was extending its vision to appreciate the community that raised them to be what they had become. High up on their agenda, he said, they would engage Kanye youth and encourage them to have purposeful lives.

Going forward, Mr Mompati said they intended to register a society that would involve all SSSS alumni so they could have a lasting impact on the development of Kanye.

With the donation, the class also wanted to appreciate the former SSSS school head teacher, who is also former chief executive officer of the Vision 2016 Council, Dr Collie Monkge whose leadership, they said, guided them through their studies according to Ms Patlo Entaile, a member of the SSSS Class of 97.

Ms Entaile said Dr Monkge demanded only the best out of them thus propelled them to aim high in their studies. She said it was important to appreciate people who made a positive impact on society beyond just a call of duty, like Dr Monkge, while they were still alive. Receiving the donation KSDAH matron, Ms Keabitsa Ramantele, thanked the Class of 97 for helping their “neighbours”.

She said Christ described a neighbour as anyone who needed help, adding the donation complemented the hospital endeavour to provide quality health services to the nation. Ms Ramantele, who described the donation as a gesture of good service to humanity, urged the class to get more involved in the annual Bangwaketse cultural activities in order to revive Sengwaketse culture and traditions.
