Mascom today launched Mascom MyZakaPay, a user-friendly and widely accessible platform that allows users to make seamless transactions for goods and services directly from their phones.
The innovation service is currently through USSD and according to Mascom Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Ms Boipelo Matenge, other channels will follow.
“MyZakaPay marks a significant leap towards financial inclusion.
It is a secure, flexible, affordable, anywhere, anytime digital pay solution. Customers can easily pay for goods and services at a variety of formal, and informal merchants using MyZakaPay, directly from their MyZaka funds on their phones,” said Ms Matenge.
MyZakaPay does not need a card, and the service enables and connects merchants and customers through just their mobile devices and the MyZaka wallet.
“With MyZakaPay you can transact on any kind of mobile phone,” she said.
Ms Matenge said the innovation was the future way of making payments, which is effortless and secure geared particularly to SMMEs as well as on the go payments such as taxi or bus rides payments.
She said the service combines affordability, convenience and a safe and secure form of transacting. She further said Mascom recognises the importance of financial inclusion for all individuals especially the SMMEs.
Ms Matenge said MyZakaPay would bridge the gap between those without access to traditional banking services and the advantages of electronic transactions, empowering them to actively participate in the modern economy with the added benefits of convenience and security.
“The inclusion and enablement of the SMME sector in Botswana is a key element on the National Agenda, it is a call to all, including the private sector. As a proudly Botswana Company, Mascom is aligned to this endeavour and we are excited about the immense benefits to be unlocked by SMMEs through the widespread adoption and usage of MyZakaPay,” she said.
Mascom is collaborating with a wide range of merchants, across the whole spectrum of the economy, large-scale outlets, retailers, SMMEs, and micro-traders (such as food vendors) across the country.
Mascom aims to establish MyZakaPay as a widely accepted and trusted payment method in the market. Customers can use the USSD *167# process to make a transaction at various collaborative merchants. Ends
