Selolwane Hardware houses needy person
29 Dec 2013
The Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu, has called on Batswana to continue to support government’s poverty eradication efforts.
Speaking at the handover of a two-roomed house built by Selolwane Hardware for a needy person, Mr Batshu said he was grateful for the positive response from individuals, companies as well as SHHA and Turkey programmes.
“If we all join hands in this regard, our national Vision 2016 and the Millennium Development Goal of eradicating poverty would be realised,” he said.
Mr Batshu said through the Presidential Housing Appeal, government wanted to ensure that all Batswana were properly housed. “We believe that it is impossible to live a truly dignified life in the absence of adequate shelter,” he added.
He noted that the shelter that the beneficiary, Ms Xixa Nneelang, lived in was demeaning and needed urgent attention. The beneficiary would now walk around with dignity because the new shelter was appropriate. He appreciated the generosity of Selolwane Hardware.
The two-roomed house donation came with a pit latrine, furniture, blankets, curtains and a gas stove. Mr Ketan Brahmkshatriya, the general manager of Selolwane Hardware, said he was pleased to donate the house to the family on behalf of Selolwane Hardware.
He said he believed that the house would be appreciated, especially the fact that it came around the festive season. The beneficiary’s daughter, Ms Angelinah Nneelang, said the family appreciated the generosity of Selolwane Hardware.
Ms Nneelang encouraged individuals and companies to continue with the spirit of giving and assisting the less privileged. ENDS
