The Vice President, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe has advised football teams to work together towards developing sports and their villages.
Speaking during the Mogapi Terrors football club sponsored walk on December 28, Dr Kedikilwe said for teams to move forward they should come together.
He said there were many football teams in Mogapi and for them to move from only playing in constituency games to premier league they should unite and form one strong team which would take their players to the next level.
He noted that teams such as Gaborone United were formed by players from different villages and because they had one goal in mind, they came together. The aim of the sponsored walk was to raise funds to construct a sporting complex.
Dr Kedikilwe said if the teams came together, they could achieve what they wanted and hopefully government with funds permitting, could meet them half way and assist them develop whatever they wanted. He said the grounds could not only be used by Terrors but by all teams in the village, because they worked together towards its construction.
Dr Kedikilwe also advised parents to encourage their children to be involved in sport, as they could turn their lives around, adding that there were a lot of players who earned a living through sport. He said gone were the days when football or any sport was only played for fun.
He encouraged Terrors management to accommodate other sporting codes such as volleyball, softball and netball so that they could help develop sport further. Dr Kedikilwe went on to explain that exercising through sport was a key component in one’s life because a healthy body hosted a healthy mind thus people should always take part in sport. Dr Kedikilwe pledged P5 000.
For his part the president of the team Later Matubako said they wanted to construct a fully furnished sporting complex with changing rooms. Matubako said they wanted their players to experience what other players in big teams were experiencing, so that they too could grow in sport.
He said they were going to include other sporting codes, and encouraged the youth to come forth and utilize the facilities. He assured that the facilities would not only be used by his team but other teams would also be allowed to use them.
He said the main purpose to construct the facilities was to lure the youth from engaging in bad things, and also this was a way of them doing their social responsibility. Matubako said the facility would not only help the youth but also raise Mogapi name. ENDS
