Young Stars stare at promotion
23 Apr 2024
Debswana First Division South (DFDS) outfit, Jwaneng Young Stars are in pole position to book a ticket to the premier league and need only six points to ensure promotion to the elite league.
The Jwaneng-based team has been at the helm of the FDS league for much of the season and are left with four games to collect the six points they need from the 12 on offer. Dinaletsana, as the team is known by its supporters, is determined to hold on until the end.
They have accumulated 40 points and have opened a seven points buffer between them and second placed Union Flamengo Santos who have amassed 33 points from as many games.
Over the weekend, Young Stars solidified their position by overcoming former premier league outfit, Extension Gunners to ensure their hands remained on the trophy.
In other games played over the weekend, Santos also kept their dream of promotion or at least the playoffs by defeating their rivals to the spot, City Polar 2-1 in Gabane.
In another interesting game, Tsabong-based, Desert Nxau tasted their second win of the campaign when they got the better of fellow relegation threatened side, Mogoditshane Fighters. The Tsabong-based club drilled four goals past the Fighters goalkeeper, the most that they have ever scored in a single game, although they also conceded two goals.
Desert Nxau are now three points below the relegation zone cut off with a game in hand. In other weekend games, Mochudi Centre Chiefs compounded Notwane’s troubles when they beat them 1-0.
This leaves Sechaba languishing above the relegation zone with just 17 points.
URI Black Forest and UB Hawks played to a one-all stalemate while Prisons XI and Tlokweng United also finished deadlocked at 0-0. ENDS
