Moshupa-born DJ Laputo mesmerised revellers with his captivating premier artistic skills during the contemporary music festival dubbed Hika La Ngwanyana Cultural Festival held in Moshupa Saturday.
Just when the crowd was still reeling from the thrill of performances displayed during the day from the main programme, the music festival kicked off just at the fall of dusk.
The line-up was a blend of both established and upcoming artistes from various genres, but it was DJ Laputo who seemed to enjoy home advantage to the fullest.
Even though his performance came after music’s heavy weights such as Dr Vom, Khoisan and Dikakapa, he was determined to stamp authority with his brilliant set encompassing old school hits and crowd pullers common among young revellers.
Earlier on, it was Mma Ausi and her crew that raised the curtain to the second lap of the festivities, drawing attention with their electrifying stage presence and rich Setswana melodies.
As usual, Dr Vom’s popular hit, Tsaya Thobane was the people’s favourite, as they alighted from the spectator stands to join him on the open stage.
Free-style music ensemble usually known as dikhwaere that were featured during the day’s programme were also delighted to be invited to sing along and dance to Tlhabano.
Musical duo, Khoisan of Sananapo fame did not disappoint but rather took performances to another level, as they successfully shifted the mood to more contemporary music, with lyrics such as Mpoledise and Sananapo stealing the show.
In between their songs, Dikakapa also took a moment of silence in remembrance to the celebrated and most decorated traditional music fallen giant and also former band member, Gong Master who passed on a year ago.
The inclusion of upcoming artistes such as Kuka la Setso, leaped up the momentum through performing popular songs such as Moshianyana o lorile toro, created a spectacular platform for talent growth and exposure, resonating well with part of the objectives for Hika La Ngwanyana cultural festival.
Meanwhile, revellers were further treated to a fun-filled night from performances by kwaito star Vee Mampeezy and other legendary DJs, while MC Hey Nyena coordinated the night way.
He was taking the baton from his equally talented female counterpart, MC Tills, who was directing the first part of the performances. ENDS
