BOCRA donates laptops to Tribal administration

19 Dec 2013

The Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) has donated eight laptops and a coloured printer to the Central region tribal administration authority.

The computers would be used to service the whole Central region which comprises of 16 offices all of which were under Serowe tribal administration. When handing over the computers in Serowe on Wednesday, chief executive officer of BOCRA Mr Thari Pheko said he believes that the computers would enhance the good job that the tribal administration has been doing with minimal resources, though they were servicing a big area.

Mr Pheko said the other reason why they donated the computers was because they wanted to help the region to realise one of the pillars of 2016 of ‘an educated and informed nation’ adding that they also encourage the use of Information and Communications Technology in the rural communities.

He further said since they had realised that the Central region administration authority serves a wide area, the computers would be installed with Wi-Fi to enable all offices to print and send documents to their head office where ever they are to speed up service delivery.

The CEO said his wish was to find the Serowe main kgotla being the first in the country to have a fully-fledged internet services in the near future. Mr Pheko promised the Central region tribal Administration authority that they would do everything possible to ensure that they find ways of purchasing the other eight laptops so that each of the 16 offices could have at least one laptop.

When giving a word of appreciation the Serowe senior tribal subordinate authority, Kgosi Mokhutshwane Sekgoma thanked BOCRA for the good gesture they have shown towards the Central region tribal administration authority.

Kgosi Sekgoma underscored the fact that they were serving a vast area with minimal resources and as such the computers would motivate them to improve their productivity.

He pointed out that they would utilise them fully because even the youthful staff they had was computer literate. Kgosi Sekgoma reiterated Mr Pheko’s words that the gadgets would help them reduce their turn-around time seeing that they were forced to travel long distances to carry out their duties.

He pointed out that other organisations should emulate BOCRA and give a helping hand because government could not do everything alone. ENDS
