Police women donate to needy people

18 Dec 2013

In support of Vision 2016’s pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation, the Jwaneng police women network has donated clothes and grocery to a needy person recently.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Jwaneng station commander superintendent Theriso Thatayotlhe said contrary to popular belief that the police only fight crime, police women have gone an extra mile by showing compassion and improving the lives of the under privileged.

Supt Thatayotlhe said the spirit of giving was vital for the development of the country, adding that all initiatives aimed at improving the lives of ordinary and needy Batswana should be supported in every way possible. The recipient, a wheelchair bound, Ms Mercy Serobe expressed gratitude for the donation, saying that it came as Christmas present to her.

She further said that the clothes and handbags received would uplift her self- confidence as a woman. Ms Serobe encouraged the police women network to continue helping other people who are less fortunate and living with disability.

The area councillor, Mr Obed Monkge applauded the Jwaneng police women network for the donation, saying their gesture was both motivating and challenging to other individuals and companies within the town to also support government initiatives established to improve the lives of fellow citizens.

Cllr Monkge called on other organisations to have the spirit of giving for the realisation of Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation and the government’s efforts aimed at eradicating poverty. ENDS
