Church transforms lives

18 Dec 2013

The assistant district commissioner for North West, Ms Gaehetswe Maphakwana has hailed women from Saint Faith Holly Church for transforming the lives of the underprivileged society.

She applauded the church during a handover of a two-roomed house to Ms Zita Samaroba, which she said would restore dignity of the family as they now have a proper house to live in. The church also donated a bed, blankets, kitchen equipment, grocery, money and also furnished the sitting room.

Government, Ms Maphakwana said continues to recognise the role played by churches and hoped that a lot would be achieved through their involvement in driving and embracing vision 2016 pillars. She said what the church did was on line with one of the pillars of Vision 2016 which calls for all to be compassionate and care for the less fortunate in the society.

Ms Maphakwana revealed that the North West District Council is faced with a challenge of an increase in the number of beneficiaries supported under social welfare programme adding that it was the role of the church to continue trying to bring relief and help to those in needy.

She added that their partnership was crucial as they have the same goal of providing a dignified live to people. “As it is well known that Mme ke thari ya setshaba, you have really ensured that every move you take makes a difference in the lives of the community.

You have demonstrated love, care and compassion to the Samaroba family and your donation would always be remembered,” she added. Ms Maphakwane said it was impressing to find that ordinary Batswana were also extending a helping hand despite their wealth status. She quoted from the Bible that “He who helped the poor gives to the Lord.”

Acting Batawana paramount chief, Kgosi Kealetile Moremi commended the church for their good gesture adding that the donation signified good heartedness and encouraged other churches and the community at large to emulate that. Kgosi Moremi said they have responded positively to President Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s call in providing shelter and helping the less fortunate in society.

She said praised women from Saint Faith Holly Church, saying their activities resonate well with what the country strives to achieve through vision 2016 campaign.

Kgosi Moremi said faith without action is dead and encouraged women to continue with the good work.  Kgosi also requested for prayers especially for Maun Senior Secondary School noting that the school has recently been engulfed with horrifying incidents. ENDS
