BERA amends Petroleum products importation quota

Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) informs the public of the coming into force of the BERA (Amendment) Act, 2022 and the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (Importation of Petroleum Products Allocation) Order on April 1.
A press release from BERA sates that from then onwards, person(s) and entities not majority citizen owned shall not be permitted to import petroleum products into the country.
It further says all petroleum products import licences previously issued by the authority became defunct on March 31 in accordance with Regulation 56 of the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (Petroleum Products) Regulations, 2024.
It further says majority citizen owned companies that have been actively importing shall continue to do so for a period of six months from April 1.
Meanwhile BERA has adjusted the National Petroleum Fund (NPF) levy upwards from 13.5 thebe per litre to 70 thebe per litre effective April 1.
This, the release states, follows the amendment of Regulation 52 of the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (Petroleum Products) Regulations of 2024. Ends
