Mogae Kabelano Trust President
17 Dec 2013
Former president, Mr Festus Mogae has been appointed the honorary president of Kabelano Trust.
The trust chairperson, Mr Terrance Dambe made the announcement at the Barclays Kabelano Charity Cup donation ceremony in Phakalane on December 16.Mr Dambe said the appointment of Mr Mogae was motivated by the former president’s relentless fight to help people who were less fortunate in life.
He said Mr Mogae was invited to take the position of honorary president because he had shown unconditional support to the trust. He said trustees were happy to have the former president as their honorary president because they would benefit from his guidance and wisdom.
At the same ceremony, Kabelano Trust donated P75 000 each to Kagisano Women Shelter, Women Against Rape, the African Women Leadership Academy and Khama Rhino Sanctuary. Mr Dambe said the main fundraising event for the trust was the annual Kabelano Charity Soccer Spectacular. He noted that 2013 marked the beginning of the trust’s relationship with Barclays Bank, which was the main sponsor of the tournament.
The relationship with Barclays Bank, he said, resulted in the success of the 2013 Kabelano Charity Cup. He applauded the bank for having the vision to be part of an event that brings enjoyment to Batswana while raising money for charity.
Dr Odirile Jankie, the chairperson of Kagisano Women’s Shelter, commended Kabelano Trust for giving back to the community, adding that the donations came in handy as many charity organisations were struggling because of shortage of funds.
Dr Jankie urged community members to be philanthropic and to help people who fall victim to social ills such as rape and abuse. She raised concern about the increasing incidents of gender-based violence. She urged couples to seek appropriate conflict management solutions. Ends
