Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) is not in receipt of any refund requests related to prepaid standpipes water token in the Selebi Phikwe East area, says Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Mabuse Pule.
Mr Pule, who was answering a question in Parliament on behalf of the Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, said the corporation was not aware of any person owed refunds for prepaid standpipes.
“WUC has well defined refund procedure in place for customers who request a refund.
Written requests with proof of purchase tokens will be assessed on receipt and customer accounts will be investigated to establish balances and approvals will be made for processing of refunds and to pay customers,” he said.
Mr Pule maintained that there were no outstanding amounts held by government as a refund for prepaid stand pipe water tokens.
Selebi Phikwe East MP, Mr Kgoberego Nkawana had asked the Minister to apprise the house on the progress made in refunding individuals who had purchased water tokens for prepaid standpipes.
He also wanted to know the number of residents owed by the government under the programme and also the amount held by the government that was still to be disbursed in relation to the refunds. Ends
