Sowa council assesses level of achievements

17 Dec 2013

In order to map the way forward, the Sowa Town council has reviewed its performance and assessed the level of attainment of their objective and targets.

Addressing the last session of the full council on December 13, the Mayor of Sowa Town, Mr Moagisi Lekwapa said they were all aware that since the global economic recession, no funds had been allocated for development projects and this has led to stagnation in the township.

He said major projects such as construction of infrastructure in Block 3 SHHA, upgrading of storm water drainage, construction of the Sowa Junction-Sowa mine 40 km road as well as Ipelegeng and community projects including day care centre facilities were undertaken.

Mr Lekwapa said the Sowa Junction-Sowa mine 40 km road project had been completed with minor works pending due to lack of funds. He added that the client was to finalize the issue of termination of the contractor and then award pending jobs to the next potential contractor.

On other issues, he said that the construction of ablution blocks, kitchen and dining hall at Tshimologo Day care Centre was completed and the facility would be ready for use by 2014. He said that nine out of thirteen Ipelegeng projects were completed and four would be completed before the end of the financial year.

Consequently, he urged all institutions to submit tangible projects to the Ipelegeng unit as early as possible to facilitate early preparation for 2014/15 financial year. Mayor Lekwapa applauded the standards seven leavers for their outstanding 2013 performance results and said this translated to a 65 percent A-B pass rate, adding that it showed an improvement compared to a 45 percent A-B pass rate in 2012 results.

He said the crime situation has been tremendously reduced with respect to common violent and serious offences as they were no reported cases as compared to previous quarter. “These achievements are as a result of intensive patrols by police, task force operations and cluster policing,” he said.

Cllr Banda Senamolelo applauded teachers and parents for their hard work and producing good results. He encouraged parents to joins hands and work with teachers and also attend PTA meetings.  ENDS
