17 Dec 2013
Children hospitalised at Ghanzi primary hospital have received Christmas presents from Kabakae Primary School connecting classroom member children.
Connecting classrooms is a global learning program initiative pioneered by the British Council. It establishes and develops long-term sustainable partnerships between education authorities and schools in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world.
Senior teacher, Mrs Senyale Senono said connecting classroom enables children to be competitive and creative. She said as part of the program, the children found it fit to give presents to the hospitalized ones because they are part of them and they sometimes have their school mates hospitalized.
Mrs Senyale Senono said the children were also working towards achieving one of the national vision 2016 pillars of ‘A Compassionate, Just and Caring Nation’ as they had in the past bought three school uniforms for children who were without uniforms. She said the initiative helps boost children’s self-esteem as they get a chance to interact with so many people.
When receiving the presents, the hospital matron, Martha Ditlhobolo thanked the children and the school management for choosing the hospital among other institutions as patients, especially children tend to feel lonely within the facility but, this time they will use the presents to keep them busy.
Kabakae ward Councilor, Norman Kelebemang, in his closing remarks applauded the children, school management and staff for the initiative as it shows that the children have the love and have shown that they care for those who are hospitalised. He said the school management must spread the initiative to the other parts of the district.
Mr. Kelebemang thanked the hospital for receiving the presents and further emphasized that it is a good thing for children grow with the spirit of sharing and caring for others. ENDS
