Batshu praises employees

The Minister of Labour and Home Affairs has commended the ministry’s senior management for its outstanding performance in the year 2013.

Speaking at the minister’s dinner with the senior management, Mr Edwin Batshu said the leadership of the ministry has shown tremendous improvement in service provision and the development of key performance components.

He noted that the efforts that the senior management put in supervision were commendable and therefore, appreciated their spirit of commitment in driving the ministry’s mandate and promoting a culture of service excellence.

Minister Batshu said this year, the ministry has performed well despite inadequate resources at times, saying that they managed to issue 183 869 National Identity cards (Omang). He also said over 200 000 passports were issued to Batswana.

The minister further noted that 9196 labour inspections were conducted, hence improved labour relations and 2 327 workers compensation issues were resolved this year. He also said the ministry managed to place over 4000 interns through out its various departments while out of these, 1 272 were absorbed into permanent employment.
