Ministry to fill Karakubis Ncojane vacant posts

13 Mar 2024

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is working round the clock to fill two vacant positions of dikgosi in Karakubis and Ncojane respectively.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele said the Karakubis position fell vacant on October 2, 2020 while the Ncojane position fell vacant on September 29, 2020.

“After the retirement of the then Kgosi for Karakubis, there was an impasse as to who should ascend to the Bogosi position,” he said adding that the dispute intensified and was escalated to the ministry.

Upon review of the case, Mr Modukanele said the ministry appointed a task team on August 16, 2022 to meet with residents of Karakubis to investigate the matter.

The team, he said started their task from August 22, 2022 to August 24, 2022 and submitted their report with recommendations on September 9, 2022.

Mr Modukanele said there had been delay in resolving the matter but ministry had arranged to meet with the residents of Karakubis on March 6 with a view to close the matter, which was however not possible due to other commitments such as committee of supply speech and the dikgosi forum held on the same date.

Therefore, he said the meeting would be held before end of March.

In relation to bogosi of Ncojane, the assistant minister said following the retirement of the then kgosi on September 29, 2020, a dispute brewed between residents as they were not in agreement as to who should lead them.

“The ministry has appointed a neutral kgosi to consult with residents of Ncojane before end of March to fill the vacant position of bogosi.”

Mr Modukanele was answering a question from Ghanzi South MP, Mr Motsamai Motsamai, who wanted to know why the appointments of sub-chief and headman of records at Karakubis and Ncojane respectively were taking long resulting in residents of the two villages not getting adequate services. ENDs
