Merafhe cautions land board
16 Dec 2013
Former Vice President Lt General Mompati Merafhe has advised Ngwato Land Board to exercise absolute authority when allocating land. Lt Gen. Merafhe was speaking during the Ngwato Land Board chairman’s ball in Serowe on December 14.
He said there were many land issues in the country, and for land boards to curb these challenges they should fearlessly carry out their duties without hesitation. He cautioned them to do what the law permits and not let anyone intimidate them, adding that for Batswana land to be protected, land board officers and the board should exercise their powers and be very strict.
He said most of Botswana’s land is occupied by foreigners, something he said was wrong, adding that it is the responsibility of land authorities to control this. However, he said they should not chase away potential investors.
For his part, Ngwato Land Board chairperson, Mr David Modisagape thanked his team together with officers for a job well done.
Mr Modisagape said since 2011 when his board got into power, it has not been an easy road but through cooperation between staff members they have achieved most of their goals.
Mr Modisagape also applauded different government departments for the support they have been giving them over the years especially Central District Council, adding that it is through their teamwork that they achieved most of their objectives. ENDS
