The Boteti West Beef Farmers Association is planning a livestock management and industry exposition to capacitate farmers with cattle production skills, quality improvement and livestock management. 

The Expo billed for March 09, 2024, is also expected to showcase treatment and management of cattle diseases. The Chairman of Boteti West Beef Farmers Association, Mr Solomon Engliton, said the aim was to exhibit and demonstrate branding of cattle and a variety of animal diseases. 

Mr Engliton said the objective was also to develop livestock production in Boteti and market their stock. The event is expected to attract a large number of farmers in Boteti West, from Orapa to Makalamabedi. 

He indicated that they have already started the registration of cattle with 20 cattle for breeding and artificial insemination, adding that registration of stalls was also ongoing and a stall costs P500. 

He said they had invited other farmers’ associations from outside Boteti West to support and benchmark on their livestock production skills. One of the farmers, Mr Galekgone Sumbikani, said hosting the Expo as Boteti West Farmers Association, it would make a significant impact on their cattle production skills in terms of taking care of stock and feeding techniques applied during various seasons. 

Mr Sumbikani said the exposition would expose them to a lot of animal treatment techniques, diseases they should expect and how they should respond. 

He stated that it would also equip them with marketing skills for their beef. 

Another farmer, Mr Joseph Nicodemus, said as Boteti West farmers they were lagging behind on developing cattle breeds, noting that most of them reared on communal land. 

Mr Nicodemus reiterated that the exposition would enable them to benchmark on production skills and marketing strategies as well as pricing. Ends
