Government to address septic tank challenge

28 Feb 2024

Ministry of Education and Skills Development is aware that the septic tanks drainage system at Marakanelo Junior Secondary School is currently full.

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Aubrey Lesaso said the tanks filled up quickly due to the large population of learners in the hostels. He said the school was designed for 240 learners, but was currently holding 510 learners.

He added that his ministry was sourcing funds to address all secondary schools needs with regard to maintenance and sewage.

Mr Lesaso also said his ministry had constructed two conservancy tanks for the hostels and one for the kitchen waste at Marakanelo junior school and that  they would be connected as part of the permanent solution for the school.

He further said in the interim, his ministry would engage local contractors to empty the septic tanks more frequently.

Member of Parliament for Ghanzi South, Mr Motsamai Motsamai had asked the Minister of Education and Skills Development to state the short-term solution for Marakanelo Junior Secondary School drainage system since the kitchen was affected by the flowing drainage water. ENDS
