26 Feb 2024

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has launched Mr Kgoberego Nkawana as its prospective parliamentary candidate for Selebi Phikwe and his council team.

Officially launching Mr Nkawana at Botshabelo on Saturday, BCP president, Mr Dumelang Saleshando described Mr Nkawana as a reliable and loyal individual who was capable of representing the people of Selebi Phikwe East in the coming general elections.

He said Mr Nkawana, who is the incumbent MP for Selebi Phikwe, had served the constituency diligently and could be trusted to continue serving for the next five years. “Mr Nkawana is a very patriotic member who has the interest of the people of Selebi Phikwe at heart,” he said.

Furthermore, Mr Saleshando, who is also the MP for Maun West, explained that the BCP was independent from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and would not be contesting under the UDC ticket in the coming general elections. He said BCP was a strong party that Batswana should trust to lead the country, adding that his party was the only one that was ready for the elections. He said they were the only party that held its primary elections and had launched their 10-point agenda for a better Botswana.

The plan, he said, was to build an economy that could sustain a living wage of P4 000 a month by 2029 and creating 300 000 jobs in five years.

He said for the BCP to implement the plan it needed the support of Batswana to unseat the ruling party, urging Selebi Phikwe residents to vote for his party in the coming general elections.

For his part, BCP’s vice president, Mr Taolo Lucas urged residents of Selebi Phikwe who did not register for elections to take advantage of the supplementary voter registration to register for elections.

He said that would give them the opportunity to ensure that BCP retained the Selebi Phikwe East constituency by voting for Mr Nkawana. Mr Lucas explained that BCP aimed to win all the four constituencies constituting the BOSEMA region being Bobonong, Selebi Phikwe West, Selebi Phikwe East and Mmadinare.

In addition, he urged residents of Selebi Phikwe East to give Mr Nkawana another chance to serve them because he was an obedient, hardworking and kind hearted leader who always puts the interests of his constituents above everything.

For his part, Mr Nkawana promised to remain committed to the people of Selebi Phikwe East and that he would ensure that they lived dignified lives.

He said he would continue advocating for developments in Selebi Phikwe East as well as sustainable projects that would create employment for the constituents. He said the citrus project would not create much employment because a large portion of their produce was exported to international markets where it was going to create more employment opportunities.

Mr Nkawana also urged residents of Selebi Phikwe to trust the BCP to change their lives for the better. ends
