Two goals within a space of two minutes were enough to secure victory for UB Hawks after defeating Mochudi Centre Chiefs 2 – 1 in an exciting Debswana First Division South league game played at Riverplate Stadium in Mochudi on Saturday.
It was a game of high tempo, although the referee Tumisang Ntesetsang had to be escorted off the field following his failure to properly manage the game. Chiefs supporters felt the referee was not fair to them as he made dubious decisions against their team, often favoring their opponents.
The game itself started at a high pace with the hosts dominant in the midfield, allowing UB Hawks to control the game. UB Hawks utilised a mix of short and long passes, troubling the Chiefs' defense, which evidently requires significant improvement if the team aims to return to the Premier League.
The Man of the Match was undoubtedly Ishmael Metlhaleng, who effectively marked Remmington Masuku while showcasing his attacking capabilities. Metlhaleng's height provided the Hawks with an advantage in clearing aerial balls played into their box.
Chiefs took the lead through a well-crafted move finished by Ofentse Chitutu, but UB Hawks quickly responded with goals from Thatayaone Nkwapa and Thabiso Fani. In the second half, UB Hawks focused on defending their lead, while Chiefs struggled to capitalize on opportunities to equalize or secure a win.
The match ended with UB Hawks claiming victory over Chiefs, leaving the latter's coach, Oupa Kowa, dissatisfied with the officiating. On the other hand, UB Hawks' coach, Vincent Dlamini, commended his team's performance and disciplined execution of the game plan.
In other First Division South games, Mogoditshane Fighters won 3-0 against Extension Gunners, Union Flamengo Santos defeated Desert Nxau 2-1, and Prisons XI emerged victorious with a 3-0 win over Black Forest. BOPA
