Duo braces for Africa Games
22 Feb 2024
It is a date. Beach volleyball players, George Chiswaniso and Jack Boifang will participate at the 13th Africa Games in Accra, Ghana from March 8 to 23.
The men’s team has been awaiting finalisation by the regional beach volleyball body on whether third placed teams will have a slot at the games and as lady luck would have it, the number of teams qualifying for the games increased from 12 to 21, a development that allowed Botswana a chance to participate.
They will join their female counterparts, Ngirl Wright and Wabongwa Boima who got an automatic qualification slot after finishing second behind Mozambique.
Confirming the men’s team participation, Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) vice president-administration, Ndibo Lebala said beach volleyball teams were in training, preparing for departure with the rest of Team Botswana.
He said the federation was delighted that the team that had been doing well in the region would represent the country at one of Africa’s top events.
Jack and George as they are affectionately known in Beach Volleyball, eagerly awaited for a miracle to happen after finishing third behind Mozambique and South Africa, therefore missing out on the two automatic qualifying spots at the Africa Games Qualifiers for Beach Volleyball recently hosted by Botswana in January
Meanwhile, the men and women teams have been in the near past, performed exceptionally well dominating the Zone VI in Beach Volleyball.
Women’s team, Wright and Boima and men’s, Jack and George are the reigning champions of the recently concluded four-legged Zone VI beach volleyball series. Ends
