Lack of funds hinders building of fire brigade
22 Feb 2024
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Mabuse Pule says his ministry recognises the need for a fire brigade and fire extinguishing facility in Masunga.
He, however, said on account of budgetary constraints it has not been possible to have a fire station in the previous plan periods.
Mr Pule said his ministry had a standing arrangement with the Francistown City Council to provide fire services to Masunga.
He, however, said in an endeavour to remedy the situation the provision of fire services for Masunga together with that of Tonota, Shakawe, Hukuntsi, Tutume, Nata, Mmadinare, Ramotswa and Mahalapye through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model had been included in the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP), and that the project would form part of the annual plan for the 2024/2025 financial year.
The MP for Tati West, Mr Simon Moabi had wanted to know whether the recent inferno at Masunga Senior Secondary School was not evidence enough that a fire brigade should be urgently constructed in Masunga, and plans to construct fire extinguishing facility in Masunga to safeguard the community. ENDS
