21 Feb 2024

Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Molebatsi Molebatsi says he is aware of the condition of agricultural offices throughout the country as well as the situation of transport for frontline extension workers.

He said plans to address the challenges were ongoing and that his ministry was currently offering transportation for frontline extension workers and had embarked on determining the most convenient modality with which the service could be achieved.

Mr Molebatsi said his ministry had requested replacement of 113 vehicles for the 2024/2025 financial year that would be distributed to various districts. He pointed out that the Central Transport Organisation had approved only the procurement of 73 vehicles amounting to over P49 million.

Furthermore, he said about P15 million had been proposed to hire private vehicles and that government fleet management would facilitate the hiring from the private sector by using a one-year framework tender.

The MP for Nata-Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister when the maintenance of all dilapidated offices throughout the country would be done and whether there were any plans to provide balemisi with transport. ENDS
