Orange FA Cup heats up
20 Feb 2024
After this weekend’s games, Season 5 of the Orange FA Cup is expected to get even hotter by each stage.
Following the completion of the weekend’s fixtures, a last 32 draw was conducted and expectations are for the fixtures to play on the week of March 9-10.
When the draw was conducted, Santa Green FC were paired against struggling premier league giants, Orapa United.
After experiencing some low patch in the premier league, The Ostriches are looking forward to use the FA Cup to redeem their pride and are well aware what a loss to the lowly rated Santa Green would mean.
BDF XI are expected to take a long journey to Chobe where they will be visitors to Mbalakalungu FC, a team that has always proved to be a tough nut on their home ground. Mogoditshane Fighters, struggling to keep up pace in the First Division South (FDS), will face Tsabotlhe FC of Serowe.
Over the weekend, Tsabong outfit, Desert Nxau tasted a rare victory when they defeated Walker FC of Molepolole 3-1. This was only their second win this season, with their solitary win coming in a league game against Notwane FC.
They will now face Pula Roofing. After shocking fellow premier league rivals, VTM FC will now be looking to continue their winning feat when they face less fancied Shoshong United.
The premier league rookies outdid themselves over the weekend when they defeated the much fancied Matebele FC 3-0 at the VTM Arena on Saturday.
Police XI on the other hand will face a tough test against Eleven Angels. Ever since coming to the premier league two seasons ago, Angels have been one of the trickiest teams to play against.
Meanwhile Jwaneng Galaxy will face Holy Ghosts for the second time in a short while.
The two faced each other this past weekend in a premier league game where Galaxy emerged 3-0 winners, courtesy of a Thabang Sesinyi hat trick.
Holy Banyana, as the Mmopane outfit are christened by its supporters, would be hoping for sweet revenge against the Botswana representatives in the CAF competitions.
Taung Young Strikers will face Chadibe FC, who are one of the toughest teams in the First Division North.
After seeing off fellow FDS campaigners in Union Flamengoes Santos, UB Hawks will be looking forward to eliminating another fellow second division side, Notwane FC.
In the league, UB Hawks have been gaining confidence with each game, a positive they would be looking forward to maintaining in the Orange FA Cup.
Masitaoka FC of Molepolole will face Security Systems while Gaborone United will look forward to easing last Prisons XI.
Nico United will face fellow mining town neighbour, Morupule Wanderers while Extension Gunners will pit horns against Sua Flamingoes. Mochudi Cetre Chiefs have been extended a better chance at progressing to the last 16 after being drawn against minors, City Kings of Gumare, while Township Rollers will travel to the Kazungula Young Fighters.
In the last fixture, Sand Diamonds will pit its strength against TAFIC FC. ENDs
