The Diplomatic Woman’s Association (DWA) has donated 78 pieces of linen to Princess Marina Hospital (PMH) Delivery Unit.
Handing over the donation, the DWA president Ms Elizabeth Lage said that as mothers they were glad to donate to the Delivery Unit and hoped that it would be of great assistance.
The outgoing DWA president, Ms Rita Cocodie appreciated what the hospital was doing for the mothers and noted that the donation was a token of appreciation to show the importance of mothers, as “A woman makes the world”.
Princess Marina Hospital superintendent Dr Ishmael Makone stated that the hospital encounters shortage of equipment, staff and drugs, hence, “Friends and partners like these make a difference”.
The chief nursing officer in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, Ms Berlin Maposa expressed gratitude and excitement and reminded the donor of a Setswana saying, Mmangwana o tshwara thipa ka fa bogaleng, which meant that a mother would go to all lengths to protect her child.
She cited shortage of bed linen as a challenge adding that the donation has come at the right time. “The spirit of giving at Christmas has come to PMH Delivery Unit and like Jesus we are receiving presents this time,” she said. The DWA also donated two cheques for P10 000 to Kagisano Society Women’s Shelter and The Adopt-a-Person Home-based Care and Family Life Programme.
The DWA is a charitable organisation formed 20 years ago in Botswana by wives of diplomats from different countries to Botswana. Ms Cocodie, the spouse to the Nigerian High Commissioner, said they would soon change the association’s name to Diplomatic Spouses Association inclusive of their male counterparts. ENDS
