MWER to construct sharp stones around wastewater ponds
12 Dec 2013
Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Mr Kitso Mokaila has informed parliament that his ministry will be constructing sharp stones around Gumare wastewater ponds to deter elephants from destroying electric fence.
He said mobilisation for the project will start in January 2014 and it is anticipated that the project will be completed before end of April 2014.
He indicated that the project to construct sharp stones around the ponds will significantly reduce animal mortality due to limited or no access of the ponds by livestock or wildlife as it is the case in Shakawe. Mr Mokaila was responding to a question asked by MP for Ngami Mr Taolo Habano who had asked him about the progress made on the construction of sharp stones or use chilli pepper around the Gumare wastewater ponds to deter elephants from destroying electric fence and asked about plans in place regarding the cases of Livestock loss and wildlife mortality at the ponds that were reported to his ministry.
