Two stand pipes supply Kuke
11 Feb 2024
Water demand in Kuke has grown significantly over the years and the community relies on two public standpipes as their source of supply, Minister of Lands and Water Affairs, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila has informed Parliament.
Dr Mzwinila, who was responding to a question acknowledged that Kuke had potable water challenges which made it difficult for residents to connect water to their homesteads.
He noted that the Kuke-Bere water supply project started in June 2022 and was commissioned in November 2023, resulting in improved water supply for the two villages.
He said his ministry, through Water Utilities Corporation installed four new prepaid standpipes that were donated by Sandfire Motheo Mine in December 2023, but were not yet operational due to a technical fault caused by lightning.
Dr Mzwinila said the repair work and commissioning of the standpipes was planned to be completed by the end of the month.
Ghanzi North MP, Mr John Thiite had asked for an update on the status of Kuke water project and the anticipated installation of long promised public standpipes. Ends
