Maun centre for children with disabilities not fully operational
08 Feb 2024
The Maun centre for children with severe and multiple disabilities is not yet fully operational, says Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe.
Answering a question in Parliament, Dr Letsholathebe said the project was completed in December 2023 and that the technical handover from the consulting team of engineers from the Ministry of Transport and Public Works was on February 2, 2024.
Consequent to the technical handover, Dr Letsholathebe said the Ministry of Transport and Public Works would arrange with his ministries end users and relevant stakeholders for the beneficial use of the facilities on a date yet to be officially communicated.
Owing to the process, he said his ministry had not yet made enrolments for children to join the institution. He noted that the capacity of the centre was 100 learners, 64 boarders and 36 day scholars.
Member of Parliament of Maun West, Mr Dumelang Saleshando had asked the minister to state if the centre was fully operational as well as whether the project was completed and handed over to the ministry. He also wanted to know when the first group of children were to be admitted at the school. ENDS
