Power supply will remain uncertain
10 Dec 2013
The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila says he is aware that he assured Parliament that load shedding would end on 28 July 2013.
He, however, hastened to point out that the power supply situation would remain precarious until all the four units at Morupule Power Station are brought back into service.
He said currently only two units were in operation and that the review of the two units that were not in service was ongoing, adding that he was unable to give timelines at this point in time. Notwithstanding the above, he said, power cuts that were experienced in and around Mochudi were as a result of inclement weather, accidents, normal faults and planned work activities.
Kgatleng West MP, Mr Gilbert Mangole had asked the minister if he was aware that despite his announcement that load shedding of electricity was over, the Kgatleng District, particularly Mochudi area was experiencing power cuts up to three days in a week lasting up to eight hours a day. He also asked what the cause was and when the situation would normalise. ENDS
