Batswana have been implored to rally behind the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the upcoming general elections for it to deliver its set targets and drive the development agenda.
The party chairperson also the Vice President Mr Slumber urged fellow democrats and the public to support the current leadership saying they had made visible strides to grow the economy by introducing sustainable projects and programmes aimed at empowering Batswana.
“BDP has proved to be the only party with direction and lived up to the ideals of democracy and good governance,” he said during a star rally in Sepopa in the Okavango constituency over the weekend.
He said government had taken a decision to extend artificial insemination (AI) services to Nxaraga Training Centre for farmers in Ngamiland to access services closer.
He said government had to embrace modern technology to improve productivity and quality of livestock and appealed to Batswana to embrace AI saying it was an efficient way to improve their herds and even preserve certain breeds of cattle.
Mr Tsogwane also revealed that efforts were underway to secure lucrative market for beef from the red zone and said the Ministry of Agriculture was currently in negotiations with China and other countries on how best to explore the deal.
“We are hopeful that soon our beef will be sold in China,” he said.
The party chairperson appreciated that the Okavango region was lagging behind in terms of developments and he pleaded with the community to exercise patience saying government has a plan to distribute developments across the country.
“We have embraced digitization and launched the SmartBots village connectivity project aimed at accelerating digital connectivity across the country,” he added.
Minister for Public Works and Transport who is also area MP for Good Hope/Mabule, Mr Eric Molale also appealed to the Okavango community to rally behind BDP saying a lot of developments were earmarked for the region.
He said the BDP-led government, had plans to improve roads in North West starting with Francistown-Nata road, Nata-Maun road and Sehithwa-Mohembo road.
He said BDP was a party that fulfilled its promises and dismissed reports by opposition parties that the party made empty promises to lure votes.
The BDP secretary general, Mr Kavis Kario told the Okavango residents that government was determined to bring developments in the region and appealed to them to support leadership.
He said they should acknowledge that developments could not be implemented simultaneously because the country was vast.
“However, we should be thankful that our party has delivered on the pledges made such as reset agenda and value chain development to ensure we benefit from our minerals and stimulate the economy,” he added. ENDS
