Mahalapye Hospital Outpatient department is not closed but operates on weekly basis from 730am to 430pm. 

The assistant minister of Health Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe told Parliament that the department served clients within the district including those from Parwe ward in the Mahalapye West Constituency and from other districts.  

He, also explained that the outpatient department provided services on Specialist Clinics, Infectious Disease Care Clinics and High Risk Clinics for pregnant mothers.  The Specialist clinics offers specialities in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family physician (hypertension and diabetes), Neurology, Dermatology and Surgery.  

He further said as a way of mitigating congestion at the hospital, general consultations of patients including those from Parwe was done at other health facilities within Mahalapye. 

“However, clients requiring emergency services are attended in the hospital’s Accidents and emergency department,” he said. 

Mr Lelatisitswe also encouraged patients form Parwe ward and within the district to access general consultation services at the nearby health facilities.  

As such, those from Parwe ward can access services at nearby facilities including Mowana Health Post, Airstrip Clinic and Leetile Health Post which are located 3.6, 8.2, and 9.4 km respectively from the hospital. 

Mahalapye West MP, Mr David Tshere had asked the Minister if he was aware that although Mahalapye District Hospital is located in Parwe ward, residents were made to travel long distances to clinics outside their ward for Outpatients Services such as weighing, as well as pre and post maternity care because the outpatient clinic has been closed.
