The Kweneng District Council has developed a database for Grades A and OC local contractors (construction and maintenance works) to run for two financial years, being 2023/2024 through to 2024/2025 to promote local economic empowerment.

The council’s Chairperson, Mr Allen Jacob, said when opening its full meeting on Monday, that an advert was released calling for registration of contractors followed by screening, evaluation and listing of contractors by the interim procurement oversight committee.

“We are at a stage where we now have database and local contractors have now started doing site visits and in some cases evaluations have started to identify deserving contractors,” Mr Jacob said.

He pointed that though the process had delayed project implementation, it was however necessary to take such action as it would ensure that local companies are contracted to do projects in the district.

Mr Jacob said the development management model team consulted with the district development committee on November 30, and discussed implementation modalities under their portfolio.

He said projects to be implemented under this model include construction of three new primary schools in Molepolole and Kopong, construction of 25km internal roads in Molepolole, construction of Molepolole bypass road and construction of a clinic in Kopong.

He announced that there would be more of these engagements in future to ensure that the district adequately facilitates the development management model team to fast track delivery of these projects. Ends
