Troopers win exciting final

Troopers have defeated Spartans in the final series to bag the Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) National Championships title over the December 6-8 wekend.

The final lived up to its hype as the two old rivals had a go at each other over two matches at the National Youth Centre. However, it was Troopers who completed a clean sweep of trophies this year as they have also won the league.

They beat the defending champions 56-51 in the first match of the series on Friday (December 6). Spartans then came with guns blazing and led 18-14 in the first quarter on Saturday night (December 7). Mothusi Thipe combined well with the skilful Robert Mosalakatane as Spartans looked to level the series.

The likes of Mothusi Phokoje, Mbaki Pitso and Duna Setlhare combined to inspire Troopers back into the game and secure a 64-58 win which wrapped the title.vThe final whistle sparked wild celebrations from Troopers players and supporters as they had managed to dethrone their rivals of both titles. Jubilant Troopers coach, William Nyangu praised his players for the victory. “What a game. What an exciting game!” he exclaimed.

He said his primary objective would be to defend both trophies next year. ENDS
