The one vehicle per village initiative is currently active, and Ghanzi District has benefited three times from the dispensation of the programme since its inception.
The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Mabuse Pule said when answering a question in Parliament that villages which benefited through the initiative on the three occasions were Bere through the Toyota Land Cruiser Cab BX 163460 that was procured in the 2015/16 financial year.
Ghanzi also benefitted through the Isuzu KB 250 Double Cab BX 164385 which was procured in the financial year 2016/2017, and East-Hanahai through the Toyota Land Cruiser 4.2 Double Cab BX 2019/20 procured in the 2019/2020 financial year.
He said the motor vehicles for Ghanzi and Bere were currently active and in use while the vehicle for East-Hanahai was involved in a road accident on September 2, 2022.
Mr Pule further noted that East-Hanahai was currently being assisted by Ghanzi which is 55 kilometres away (gravel road), adding that the ministry was in the process of raising a Government Purchase Order for repairs of the vehicle as evaluation of quotations for maintaining the vehicle was completed by fleet management services in August.
He said his ministry expected maintenance of the vehicle to be complete by the end of the current financial year 2023/2024.
He further said the ministry had plans in place to replace the boarded government motor vehicles for New-Xade, New-Xanagas and Grootlagte in the current financial year funds permitting.
Ghanzi North MP, Mr John Thite had asked the minister if he was aware of the complaints by dikgosi and court ballifs in the Ghanzi District, highlighting the severe impediment to their duties due to scarcity of official vehicles in their respective villages. ENDS
