The recently established Letlhakeng game park is a welcome development as it will boost tourism in the area, in the process creating the much needed employment opportunities.

Contributing to the SONA on November 16, the Member of Parliament for Letlhakeng/Lephepe, Mr Liakat Kablay called on government to resource the park with more facilities and animals to ensure its optimum operation.

“We have requested for additional animals such as eland, gemsbok and zebras from Tsabong and the northern part of the country,” he said.

Mr Kablay also urged government to assist as promised, in developing pans scattered in the area by turning them into tourist attractions to complement the said park.

On issues of education, Mr Kablay enquired on the Ngware junior school, which he said was promised years back.

He said the plot and designs for the school were already done when government took a decision to postpone the project.

“The school will be strategic and it will relief Mphuthe Junior Secondary School in Letlhakeng, which has surpassed its enrollment capacity,” he said.

He said because of the high number of students at Mphuthe, indiscipline had been on the rise as teachers could not cope with the numbers.

Mr Kablay also called for the construction of one-classroom schools in areas such as Mmamoagi and Mmaothate from where he said that pupils often travelled as long  as 14km daily to the nearest school.

He also requested government to complete the Sojwe Construction Industry Trust Fund (CITF) project, which was left halfway complete and was now an abode of domestic animals.

He also enquired on the rehabilitation centre, which was planned for Serowe, stating that it would help a great deal in rehabilitating pupils who were prone to drug abuse.

He said at the moment, the rehabilitation process was costly as the only available rehabilitation centres were in the neighbouring South Africa. ENDS
