BOTEPCO to start teacher registrationlicencing system
15 Nov 2023
Botswana Teaching Professionals Council (BOTEPCO) is currently developing an online registration and licencing system to commence registration and licencing teachers in the first quarter of the financial year 2024/25
The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Aubrey Lesaso told Parliament that currently, BOTEPCO management was engaging with critical stakeholders, mainly those in the teaching fraternity to sensitise them on the mandate of BOTEPCO and how they would be working together.
BOTEPCO became operational with the appointment of the Board which was inaugurated in 2020, and Mr Lesaso said since then, they have developed the organisational structure and conditions of service, which were guiding the ongoing recruitment.
“There are ongoing recruitment efforts by the council as well as the development of Policies Programmes and systems. Other efforts are the development of regulations, the development of Teacher Registration and Licensing systems and the development of Teaching standards,” he said.
Mr Lesaso said that the Founding Registrar was appointed in April and was currently working on the recruitment of staff while the Registrar or accounting officer was appointed at the same time to set up the organisation.
Member of Parliament for Ngami Caterpillar Hikuama had asked the minister for an update on the status of the Botswana Teaching Professionals’ Council and when the Council would start to certificate and register teachers as per its main objectives and purpose. Ends
