GCC undertakes routine roads maintenance

The Gaborone City Council is undertaking routine maintenance of roads in the Gaborone Bonnington-South Constituency through different programmes funding such as Recurrent Budget, Community Constituency Projects (CCP) and the National Development Budget.

Answering a question from Gaborone Bonnington-South Member of Parliament, Mr Christian Greeff, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said through recurrent budget pothole patching has been carried out at Difetlhamolelo, Tlogatloga, Bophirima, Marulamantsi and Mosekangwetsi.

Mr Modukanele said a number of internal roads have been paved in all wards through CCP. 

He said under the current financial year paving was prioritised for some roads in Morula, Difetlhamolelo, Tlogatloga, Bophirima, and Marulamantsi. He said the number of roads were also paved through CCP in the current financial year which included among others Gatuma and Moomai roads in Marulamantsi ward.

He said asphalt overlay was also completed in Mafukutswe road in Block 9 and was ongoing in Tloutswemogala in Block 5 through CCP.

Mr Modukanele said government through the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP) has approved the design and construction of storm water mater plan for the City of Gaborone.

He said Bonnington South has prioritised the installation of solar lights through CCP. He said so far 341 solar lights have been installed in the 380 targeted points. 

Mr Modukanele said the completion delivery of the lights was expected in November 10, 2023. He said other 70 solar lights were installed in Block 5 through Roads Levy Fund.

MP Greeff had asked the Minister to update Parliament on what was being done with internal roads in his constituency as they were in a bad state. BOPA
