Car Spinners clash in Earthquake Cup

Car spinning fans are set to be treated to breath-taking action during Botswana Spinning Earthquake Cup set for Saturday.
One of the event organisers, Joseph Khengere said the car spinning fiesta is making its return to the Fairgrounds Holdings’ rear parking space after a lengthy hiatus owing to logistical challenges as well as the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event is expected to bring together the best spinning talent from Botswana and South Africa.
Over 20 spinners will compete in the fierce battle for the P10 000 grand prize.
Khengere said South African spinners had been invited to add spice to the already charged up arena while the locals will fight for the grand prize with the last car standing walking away with the coveted prize.
The local lads who will be competing at the event include the popular Saxton Leepile, fondly known as The General in local spinning rounds.
The General is one of the pioneers of the motorsport and through his passion and commitment to the sport has seen spinning rise from humble beginnings.
Others include Thuto Rasegojwa alias The Sheriff. Another interesting addition to the line-up will be veteran spinner Kagiso Binda also known as The Magistrate.
Popular spinners from as far as Francistown include Ghetto Child and Mattizzo. Other local spinners expected to grace the festival include Villa, Joe Bleksem, BMK Crew, Teb Moch, V Mud, King Joe and Boss Phiri.
South African spinners expected to give local spinners a run for their money include Bareng Mpane of Team BGB, the talented Zwikhodo Nembambula popularly known as Ziko.
Others are Eric Maswaya, Colly Mzet Golden and Isla Bonita.
Khengere said the spinners would compete in obstacles such as snake, figure eight, kitchen and drifting.
The daredevils of spinning game would face-off against each other as they let go of the steering wheel and jump out of the car or sit in a bonnet while the car is in full motion.
Since its inception, the event has created nothing but thrilling contests over the years.
Khengere said they had not been able to source sponsors for the event in the wake of the pandemic and were looking to attract partners so they could put up a mouth-watering grand prize of about P100 000 for the first prize in future contests. Ends
